About

George Haecker is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and worked in architectural offices in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and New York before founding the Omaha office of BVH Architecture in 1971.

In 2018, George transitioned to independent practice and with collaborating firms, offers full architectural and design services for cultural, civic, commercial and residential projects.

He has a special interest in architectural preservation and adaptive reuse and fusing the best of the past with contemporary design. Key projects have been the University of Nebraska College of Architecture, Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, Wilson Performing Arts Center and the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud Nebraska. His work has been recognized with over (20) AIA Design Awards and been published in leading US architectural periodicals as well as England, France and Italy.

George is a member of the National Trust Board of Advisers and has served on the Nebraska State Historical Preservation Board, Nebraska Capitol Commission, Citizen Democracy Corps in Saint Petersburg, Russia and numerous other civic and cultural positions. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Nebraska and the Cunningham Gold Medal from the Nebraska AIA

He has written many articles on architecture and historic preservation and co-authored “Omaha City Architecture. He writes some poetry, paints, and lives with his wife Judy in Omaha and on Madeline Island, Wisconsin.
